Welcome To Charnwood Forest!

We’re very proud of our alpaca farm, and we’ve been working to create this amazing space for over five years now. Whether you’re interested in purchasing an alpaca, looking to use our stud services, or for a day out at our alpaca farm.

Charnwood Forest is the home to our alpacas for sale and alpacas for stud, but we also run alpaca and animal experiences on our farm where our guests can meet our animals and learn more about this amazing species. The area is a true natural beauty, nestled in the heart of the East Midlands on the Leicestershire and Derbyshire border.

What's At Charnwood Forest

When you visit us to purchase an alpaca or take advantage of our stud services, our experienced team of alpaca experts will be delighted to show you where our herd lives so you can inspect the selection of alpacas that we have picked out for you. Here, you can look at their excellent conformation, learn more about their genetics and, if you’re interested in the stud services, we can talk about the males or females, the breeding history of our alpacas, and their ability to create high-quality cria.

Everyone who comes to Charnwood looking to purchase an alpaca or use our stud services will have thorough consultations with Chris and our team – this gives both parties an opportunity to discuss potential husbandry training, your circumstances and ability to look after alpacas, and how our team can help the buying process smooth, and stress-free. We’re passionate about developing alpacas in the UK and helping to further the breed, which is why we take so much time and effort to ensure that our buyers are prepared to care for their alpacas, and that they are just as motivated as we are!

Alternatively, if you’re arriving for a fun day of animal experiences with family or friends, you’ll quickly see that there is so much to do here at our wonderful farm. From our 90 minute experience with alpaca, our alpaca adoption plans to our fantastic Chilli Bean Cafe! At the cafe, we serve delicious homemade breakfasts, cakes and sandwiches. We also offer a fantastic package of an alpaca walk plus a tasty afternoon tea that is popular among our guests. Our cafe is suitable for a whole range of events, from birthdays, anniversaries and christenings to hen & stag do’s. Another exciting thing you’ll find when you visit is our Cria watch experience. Get up close and personal with the cutest alpacas on our farm. They are very sweet and love the attention they get from our visitors.

A Bit About Charnwood Forest

Thanks to its wide-open spaces, Charnwood Forest is the ideal place to keep a herd of alpacas, for sale or stud. We moved here from another farm in 2016, simply because we didn’t have space anymore! The 110 acres we now occupy is perfect and gives our alpacas plenty of space. This space allowed us to raise our breeding and care standards to even higher levels, all of which results in alpacas with better traits, stronger genetics and excellent conformation. It’s also big enough to allow our guests to take our alpacas for walks on our trail which is extremely popular, and a great way for absolute beginner alpaca enthusiasts to meet these animals for the first time.

An upland tract, based in Leicestershire, Charnwood Forest has extensive woodland as well as picturesque views. At its highest point, around 600 ft, allows you to see across vast swaths of the East Midlands. As well as our wonderful alpaca centre, Charnwood Forest is home to other popular wildlife trusts and farm trails like Bardon HillBradgate Park and Swithland Wood.

For years, areas of Charnwood Forest was the centre of quarry sites and was a source of whetstones and quern-stones. In fact, archaeological evidence suggests that the land was inhabited by people from the Neolithic period in around 4,000-2,000 BC!
